What is the best way to display only the posts from a certain year on each page

Is it possible to only show the posts from a specific category from the current year.
Then using the Wordpress navigation when a person click's "Next" the next page will have all the posts from the same category BUT for the next year? etc. etc.
What might make this a bit harder is we will never know if there was 2 posts for the year or 10.
Any ideas?
